Brightona 2016
As seen in issue 219 of 100% Biker
The South Downs is the UK’s newest National Park being designated in 2011. It is
also designated as an area of outstanding beauty and it’s not just because of the
pleasure of having lots of windmills. It attracts all sorts of visitors a year. Brighton
sits between the sea and the south downs nestled in its own climatic bubble which
usually means sunshine. Although a development has been here since the doomsday
book, its popularity as a seaside town grew as the Victorians found ways to visit

Since the early part of this century the rather splendid Brightona has graced Madeira Drive raising money for the Brighton Heart Foundation.
It really is a must in the calendar of events, yes it may be crowded as you ride in especially if like this year I was squished amongst a clump of trikes, not sure that’s the correct collective noun, maybe a tribunal of trikes but there were just so many bikes trying to pass through and it was here I lost my brother who rode down with me. Well done to all volunteers who were collecting and managing the massed throng.
There were people everywhere and despite the crush and chaotic parking everyone was in good humour. Maybe because as ever the weather was superb, a perfect sunny autumn day and warming up nicely though sadly I missed out on the traditional ice cream.
The custom show tent, is always a major draw, and draws many of the country’s best builders though this year there were less scooters and rats bikes in the show the quality of bikes was amazing. Best in show went to outlaw who also won best Harley and best custom and paint went to which had cool cog spinner wheels. Nice to see Dave Howes T120 triumph in the show, from a humble tidy up it has become a full on custom sadly it didn’t win anything.
With lots of music stages there was plenty of choice from blues to rock and roll to full on heavy rock and enough stalls including the ever present razor blade badges to tempt your cash. Or like me, grab a coffee and wait and watch the world to go by.
Maybe the parking was a bit crazier and maybe the show was a little less but it was still Brightona and as ever a brilliant day was had.
A great day at brighton for the annual charity do
